Have you ever wondered what it would be like to know you are doing the right thing, even though no one supports you. That is the insight you get into the mind of Winston Churchill in this film. It is truly an achievement of film making. I might be slightly bias towards this film because I find Winston Churchill an really interesting person in history, but I will try to be as objective as possible.

The film is teeming with originally and intrigue, doing a drama period piece is hard to do well because quite frankly they can be very dry. The film holds your grasp beginning to end. It gives you a clear conflict as Britain faces the destruction of their army at Dunkirk. Their is also one of my favorite shots of all time in film, not better than Steven Lang disappearing into the dark in Don’t Breath though. I won’t spoil it but it perfectly displays how Winston, and Britain as a whole feels.

I can’t talk about this movie without talking about Gary Oldman, he desreves every ounce of gold in that Oscar. His performance was radiant. He does the best imitation of a historical figure outside of Christian Bale as Dick Cheney or Bruno Ganz in Downfall. I mean it should be expected that Gary Oldman performs greatly, but he goes the extra mile in this movie.

Would highly recommend this movie if you enjoy historical dramas. It was my second favorite movie of 2017, Logan was my favorite and the best movie of 2017.
